From Atheist Agnostic to Christ: Why I Converted

Does one have to abandon logic, reason and plain old common sense to become a Christian? On the contrary it was these very things that lead to my conversion….

I agree. I’m an atheist who encourages people to read the Bible, especially Christians. Most atheists know more about the Bible than Christians. The world needs more atheists, so READ YOUR BIBLE! Amen.

SubconsciousGatherer says:

I’m sure he THOUGHT he did (as I used to) but the beauty of becoming atheist is realizing you’ve come out of a delusion. I was lied to and indoctrinated by people I trusted, ever since I was a child. I didn’t stand a chance, but as an adult I learned to REASON and use critical thinking. Once you do that, fairy tales fall away. Becoming atheist was the most liberating thing I’ve ever done. My days of mental slavery to non-existent beings is over! Amen.

jjred86 says:

It’s not about anyone Christian or non-Christian alike letting me down with hypocrisy in their preaching vs behavior. It’s about ALL Christians – out of the thousands I’ve spoken with – who have ZERO answers to my questions because they never looked at the whole picture. They just say – that’s interesting…that’s hard….let me pray for you. Keep searching. You’ll find him. Whoa, but aren’t you disturbed that your foundations never asked these questions too? They say…I DON’T KNOW.

jjred86 says:

a higher power. We are clearly in a world of fruits where life is provided for. However, there is not enough information to confirm if or what this higher power is. I think there’s plenty reason to be spiritual, but not enough reason to get behind a religion that believes those who don’t accept their version of Jesus as their savior risk burning in a fire pit of hell forever – like all my Jewish friends.

jjred86 says:

One of the things I can’t stand in the churches I go to are pastors who don’t give skeptical arguments a fair deal. My questions go deep to Constantine, to the legitimacy of Paul the Apostle, beyond the poor investigations of books like the Case for Christ, beyond the circular reasoning of C.S. Lewis. The only way I can brainwash myself into Christianity is denying my doubts and “stop thinking”. Just accept because eternal life sounds good. After years of a search I conclude there could be…

jjred86 says:

I am an agnostic who has been pursuing Jesus with an open heart for years. My girlfriend is a Christian woman and I made an honest effort to see what religious people see, but I can’t ignore reason, and it seems that every testimony I hear – even this one – ignores reason. Nothing in your testimony actually reveals “truth”. Near death, events that seem like blessings, put us in a weak spot to ignore reason and depth and accept a narrative that sounds good because our morality is woven into it.

God bless you sir.

ikickasteroids says:

Of course, my friend, but there is much more to Christianity than that where a lot of people don’t look and so, they judge Christianity from the outside instead of making an effort to look deeper.

PurelyAndSimplyEvil1 says:

There are as many bad christians as there are bad athiests. the common thing is that they’re PEOPLE!! (like soylent green) from my experiences, the bad christians use christianity to cover up their bad behaviour.

ikickasteroids says:

People need to study the Bible instead of man’s prideful knowledge before judging Christianity.

ikickasteroids says:

Can you give me crime statistics, please? The rest are all lies from God knows where. Doing a simple Google search would dispel your other statements.

PurelyAndSimplyEvil1 says:

Bible says to kill any one working on the day of sabbath and kill homosexuals. Slavery is permitted. Atheists have lower crime rates than theists. Religion causes wars and hatred. Hitler was a catholic.

SubconsciousGatherer says:

It takes 17 minutes to finally hear the word, but there it is: FEAR. This guy got the fear of death put into his brain, so he starts scrambling to avoid hell. That’s it. It happens the world over, and most people gravitate towards the most dominant of their region. That’s why we have Hindus, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Mormons. I’ve yet to hear a compelling reason why the fan-fiction offshoot of Judaism called “Christianity” is right while all others are wrong.

SubconsciousGatherer says:

If you’ve traded in your reason and logic for “faith” then I feel sorry for you. True reason and logic wouldn’t have led you to faith in the first place.

SubconsciousGatherer says:

Do you kill homosexuals by throwing stones at them? That’s in your Bible. Don’t give me that “it’s in the O.T.” crap either. So are the 10 Commandments and Adam and Eve, so unless you’re willing to throw THOSE out, you can’t dismiss stoning either.

timmyraa2 says:

he was never an atheist. no one sane would go from being an atheist to a theist.

formeragnostic says:

You walked with and knew Jesus of Nazareth personally izovlog?

ikickasteroids says:

By your logic, Atheism is a social disease because they are also competing for more followers. Also, Atheism has its false and ugly qualities like Robespierre, Mao, Stalin, and Hitler. I haven’t heard of a Christian committing the same atrocities as them since the Crusades or the Inquisition. We Christians have learned to abstain from violence more and more, you Atheists aren’t!

strongfaith888 says:

That is so so sad!! Everything I learned good is from the BIBLE. No other books, philosaphies, Holywood ect….. help me to understand what unconditional love, compasion, forgiveness, humility ( and the list can go on) is.

AR RA says:

Jesus, preached in Aramaic/Hebrew.His people were Jews who spoke Hebrew. His disciples were Jews who got the messages from Jesus in Hebrew. Now,the original bible is in Greek(the Hebrew bible is a translation of the Greek bible).Apparently, 50 years AD,the very old surviving disciples started to translate the teachings of Jesus in Greek(not in Hebrew) direct from their thinking faculties without any sort of reference-suddenly they were able to speak in different languages-by the will of God,Jesus?

Art Konstantino says:

Consider The Church of Belief Science out of Missouri. I do think you will be interested. Don’t give up on God because of men and their schizophrenic ways.

imu70 says:

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

izovlog says:

After I read the Bible I deconverted to Atheism. It wasn’t quick at first but the more scripture I read the more I realized how false and ugly Christianity really is. Looking at Christianity without the bible, though, isn’t truly following the bible. I have since looked at other Religions and they’re all the same, competing for more followers. It’s a social disease, to be honest.
